When 61 Litres Isn't Enough

The V80 is for studios that have grown past what a 61-litre kiln can offer — whether that's because the load size is too large, the firing frequency is too high, or the work demands more headroom than the smaller IKON models can provide. At 80 litres, it's a meaningful step up in capacity without requiring a move to a front-loading professional kiln.

The triple-layer insulation is the V80's defining engineering feature. Three layers dramatically reduce heat loss through the kiln walls — the practical result is more even temperature distribution throughout the chamber (important when you're loading 80 litres of work at different positions), lower electricity consumption per firing, and faster recovery between loads. For studios firing regularly, the running cost difference over time is significant.

Like all IKON kilns, the V80 is manufactured in Stoke-on-Trent with a 3-year warranty. At this scale, the electrical installation requirements are more significant than for smaller models — call us before ordering and we'll talk you through what your studio will need.

Why the V80 Performs

Triple-Layer Insulation

Three layers of insulation around the firing chamber — a step above even the GXR's double-layer system. The extra insulation mass reduces heat loss through the walls, meaning the elements spend less energy maintaining temperature, the firing profile stays more consistent, and the kiln recovers to temperature faster after loading. The difference in running costs becomes noticeable over a full year of regular use.

82-Litre Chamber

Enough internal volume to fire large sculptural pieces that wouldn't fit in a 61-litre kiln, fire bigger batch loads less frequently, or run a school or shared studio's production without constantly queuing loads. The V80 requires a dedicated hardwired electrical circuit — it cannot run from a standard 13A or 20A plug. We strongly recommend calling us before ordering to confirm your studio's electrical setup is ready. We can advise on what's needed.

Is the Ikon V80 too big for a home workshop?

Not necessarily, but it asks more of the room. It is 83cm wide, 101cm deep and 89cm high, weighs 111kg, and needs a hardwired 25A supply. If you have a garage or outbuilding with clear space around it and room for an electrician's run, it fits.

What electrical supply does the Ikon V80 need?

6kW at 25A, hardwired onto its own circuit by a qualified electrician. A dual-phase 400V option is available if your building has one, but call us to specify it before ordering — the kiln has to be built that way rather than changed later.

Should I buy the Ikon V80 or the V100?

Both are hardwired kilns reaching 1315°C, and the difference is depth. The V80 chamber is 48cm across and 44.5cm deep at 80 litres. The V100 is the same width but 56cm deep at 100 litres. Choose the V100 only if you regularly fire tall work.
